Welcome to my weekly chat about sewing, quilting, encouragement, and inspiration! Last month I talked a lot about our fabric scraps, what to do with them, how to store them, and what to make with them. I’m still working on getting mine organized but feel like I have made great progress. Give us your ideas on how you store and manage your scraps. First, I would like to congratulate Linda! She won the “Donut cocktail napkin” giveaway! I hope you enjoy those little cuties.
All the talk and motivation about utilizing scraps, getting organized, and scheduling time for projects has really impacted my work. I’m on a roll. I made these Easter napkins with fabric I had in my stash. Have any of you taken the plunge to use cloth?
My goals for this month in my sewing room include:
· I’m continuing my BOM’s. Two months in and I’m keeping up! Remember, you can start these at any time. The patterns are free on their websites.
· Continuing to use my sewing planner to help me stay on track for all my projects. I wrote down six quilts that are almost finished and that I would like to work on! I plan to pick one each month and take a day to try and finish it. I’ll be starting on my 1st one out of the 6 this month to complete! I’m going to try and give myself one Saturday or Sunday and only work on that. Wish me luck!
· Starting the beginning stages for 3 new projects! I’m going to make a Christmas Quilt for each of my three boys. Yes, they read my blog so they will know my surprise early! Surprise! That’s okay. I want to have them finished by Thanksgiving so they will be able to use them for Christmas. The pattern I’m using is in the Fons and Porter Magazine, the Nov./Dec. 2021 issue. It’s not the one on the cover. The one I chose is called, Bountiful Boxes. There is very little cutting because you use precuts!
· I have a cute purse pattern cut out that I want to get sewn together.
Wow! It’s going to be a busy month! I will continue to schedule my sewing time on my calendar because that helps me focus. I would love to know what you are working on.
Next week we have our project! I think you will like this one. It is a quilt block. I’m using my scraps, of course, but you don’t have to. You will also need adding machine tape. I could only find 2 ¼” wide, but I know they come in other widths. Any will do. Hope I have sparked your interest!

Look forward to your blogs! They are inspiring! I use flat baskets from the Dollar Tree to organize my 2 1/2 inch and 5 inch squares. My 2 1/2 inch strips are in a Dollar Tree laundry basket.

You have great ideas when it comes to using your scraps! I don’t have many scraps currently but the ones I do, I just have then stored in a bag, but that’s going to change soon because I’m getting a puppy and want to start making bandannas for her.. and maybe her doggy family if I have extra scraps!
I also have another project I want to start working on the involves fabric! I want to take one of those wood country style storage boxes, the ones that have the wood slats/ strips that hold the box together (I would add a picture to show you what I mean but the comment section doesn’t see to have a place for me to upload a picture to show you). I then want to take the top wood strip off on one side so that side is a bit lower then the other three side. I then want to put fabric inside the box to give it a soft inside. Once I do this I can decorate it and it will become a toy box for my puppy!
Morgan, I’m so glad you are getting inspired to create! I understand exactly what you are talking about with the crate. I think that is a great idea and one I might want to try with all of Mandalyn’s doggie toys! Once you get your puppy, I can see you coming up with all kinds of things to make.
