Sewing Planner Review & Monthly Favorites

Wow!  I made it to the end of my first full month of blogging! I hope you had as much fun as I’ve had.  I also hope I inspired and motivated you along the way.  Next month the format should be about the same.  I will touch on what I’m working on, a project to make together, information on sewing for charities, and then a review of a favorite book, sewing tool, or pattern.  I hope I have sparked your interest!

Let’s start with the sewing/quilting planner I purchased in December.  I have never used a planner before to organize my projects, etc.  That could be the reason I have so many wips (works in progress) and no plan for what I want to make, finish, or work on. I heard Sherri McConnell, of “A quilting life” talk about a new planner she had written.  When I heard about all that she had included in it, I really wanted to give it a try.

She included a monthly calendar that you can use to create your own schedule because she left it blank.  I started mine in January, but you can start yours in any month!  Each month has a theme and things to work on pertaining to that theme.  Reflection, planning, organizing, and systems just to name a few. I absolutely love it and think you will too!

Something that I think is genius is that she is going through the planner, month by month, on her YouTube channel.  She is answering questions and keeping us engaged, which is what most of us need!  Otherwise, some of us might start strong, but in a couple months, stick it somewhere and never work on it again.  I’m learning to take a few minutes each week to look at it, write things down, think about my sewing plans and where I’m going.  I just decided to use the calendar to write down what I get finished each day…. if anything.  I have other calendars and I didn’t know how I wanted to use this one.  By writing down what I’m sewing on each day, I can look back at the end of the week and see how much I really did accomplish!  I hope to create better sewing habits by doing this.  I’m excited, motivated, and inspired by this planner!

I have two other things that I have enjoyed this month.  First is a post on YouTube about irons.  I know.  I almost didn’t watch it either, but I’m glad I did! I learned a few things about how they work and how to keep them from leaking.  Karen Brown has a channel called, Just get it done quilts, and I watch her regularly. It’s not very long and you may learn something too!  You can watch it here.

Finally, you need to take a moment and watch the video about a grandmother who made a quilt for each of her grandchildren.  It is just plain fun and entertaining, especially if you are a quilter!  I viewed it from “A quilting life” blog so I need to give Sherri credit for sharing it with us.  You can find it here.  Please let me know what you thought in the comments. Have a wonderful week and Always Find Time to Sew,
