The Quilt Garden Tour Along the Heritage Trail

If you haven’t made the trip to Elkhart, Indiana to see and take the Quilt Garden tour along the Heritage Trail yet, then you are missing out on a wonderful adventure.

My husband Dave and I took the tour last July. I would really like to go back again because it was such a nice trip. The gardens and murals were nicely done and beautiful to look at.

This is a picture of one of the gorgeous murals scattered along the trail.

It’s located around an Amish community so that means good food, shopping and Quilt Shops!

Check out my blog post from last year to get many more details about the trip. The Quilt Gardens of Elkhart Indiana.

Planning for the Trip

First let me say this should be on a quilter’s bucket list! Even those who don’t quilt can’t help but enjoy the beauty of the flower gardens and murals.

This would make the perfect “Girls Weekend Trip”. There is a lot to see and do, so try to give yourselves at least two whole days and three or more if you want to see it leisurely without rushing from place to place.

Shipshewana is one of the towns nearby and it is one of the best areas for shopping. Fun boutique shops, craft shops and of course quilt shops are all there. Take comfortable clothes and good walking shoes!

This tour takes on a large area of the Heritage Trail so expect to be doing a lot of driving. The gardens are miles apart at different locations. That’s part of the fun though. You get to take in the countryside and visit many small towns along the way. Last year they had an app that helped you navigate around to each one and let you “check in”.

How and Where to get Started on The Quilt Garden Tour

The very first place you want to go online is to the Elkhart County Visitors Center Website. This website has all the information on what it is, where it is and how it all works. They have pictures of some of the gardens, a map, and a phone app that helps you maneuver around to the different gardens.

Once you get there, I would recommend stopping by the Elkhart County Visitors Center to talk to someone about the tour. They are so helpful and friendly.
