Jar Opener Tutorial : Makes a Great Gift!

I definitely love this time of year as the weather gets cooler and we have the Holidays just around the corner! It gets me thinking of what I want to make to give as gifts. This jar opener makes a great gift for any occasion!

As I get older, I’m finding jars are getting harder to open. I just don’t have the strength I once had. A jar opener was the answer, but I couldn’t find a simple one. Remember those little rubber circles that they gave out at the county and state fairs with sponsor’s names on them? I haven’t seen those for awhile. Eventually they get old and crunchy. I decided I had to make my own and I have a brief tutorial for you. They’re super easy and fast to make.

I like to think of one thing to use as “Hostess Gifts” for the year and I plan on making up a bunch of the jar openers and pairing each one with a scrumptious jar of jelly! Voila! Every party or dinner I attend this year, the hostess will receive this gift from me.

Two 7″ squares of cotton fabric (kitchen or holiday fabric is nice)

Sewing Instructions

Cut the cushion liner into a 7″ square.

Place one of the fabric squares right side up, then place the cushion liner on top. Finally, place the other fabric square right side down on top of the cushion liner. The picture above shows the order, but the squares need to be laid squarely on top of each other.

Pin or clip together. Sew a quarter inch around the outside, leaving about four inches along the bottom so it can be turned right side out! Carefully clip the corners at a diagonal being careful not to cut the seam.(picture above)

Turn the jar opener right side out. Carefully poke the corners. Tuck the edges at the opening together and sew about an eighth of an inch around the entire outside making sure to close up the opening. You have completed the jar opener. This makes a great gift!
